Itzhak Stern

Itzhak Stern

Itzhak Stern, a Jewish Accountant in Nazi-occupied Poland in World War II, played a pivotal role in supporting Oskar Schindler in his efforts to save his Jews. Oskar's first encounter with Itzhak Stern was when he was shopping for cheap labor to staff his newly purchased factory. Stern informed Schindler that he could use Jewish slave labor to staff his factory at a lower cost than Polish labor. Recognizing the advantage of cheap labor, Schindler took Itzhak Stern up on his suggestion and began his relationship with Stern that would forever change both of their lives.

Itzhak Stern In Schindler's List

Itzhak Stern described Oskar Schindler as a "good" German -- a rare thing to find those days in Nazi controlled Poland. This could also be seen in his actions - Schindler risked his own safety by warning Stern of impending Nazi raids in Jewish communities.
