Academy AwardŽ winner Ben Kingsley takes the pivotal role of Itzhak Stern, an accountant who serves both as Schindler's factory manager and his voice of conscience in the film Schindler's List.

Ben Kingsley is perhaps best known for his OscarŽ-winning performance in the title role of Gandhi, which also earned him a Golden Globe and a New York Film Critics Award for Best Actor. Kingsley rose to prominence in England as a member of the esteemed Royal Shakespeare Company (RSC). He continued to perform in various stage plays before taking on the role of the sadistic Squeers in the RSC's historic eight-hour production of Nicholas Nickleby.

About Ben Kingsley

Born and raised in Manchester, England, as Krishna Bhanji, Ben Kingsley changed his name when he became an actor at the age of 20. His father was a prosperous spice trader whose family traced its roots back to Gujarat, the Indian state in which Gandhi was born, and his mother was an English fashion model and actress.

In 1991, Ben Kingsley received an Academy AwardŽ nomination for Best Supporting Actor for his performance as gangster Meyer Lansky in Barry Levinson's Bugsy. He received another OscarŽ nomination in 2000 for his superb portrayal of the devious Don Logan in Sexy Beast.

Ben Kingsley Career Highlights

Ben Kingsley has starred in two motion pictures scripted by playwright Harold Pinter: Betrayal, co-starring Jeremy Irons and Turtle Diary, opposite Glenda Jackson. He has also appeared in Without a Clue, Harem, Camille, Maurice and Testimony. His most recent film credits include House of Sand and Fog, opposite Jennifer Connelly, and the children's classic Tuck Everlasting.

His television credits range from Silas Marner for the BBC to the title role in HBO's Murderers Among Us: The Simon Wiesenthal Story.

In 2002, Kingsley was further honored with a knighthood from Queen Elizabeth II.
